4 Cocktail-Hour Playlists That Everyone Will Love

Entertainment >

Music is essential in every wedding celebration. And for the most part, picking out tunes for the big day is pretty straight-forward. “Canon in D” for the ceremony; classic crowd-pleasers (“Love Shack”) and modern hits (Lady Gaga) to get the party moving during the reception.

Bridging the two is the cocktail hour, to which you should pay special attention, as it sets the mood for the rest of the evening. So, how do you make your wedding’s cocktail hour unique while still creating an appropriate vibe for your reception?

Karel King, a Chicago-based DJ and entertainment professional, recommends using “easy-listening” music that creates a happy atmosphere while not distracting your guests. King — who’s a fan of jazz, new age and music with a solo piano — reminds brides that a cocktail-hour playlist should cater to the audience you’re expecting, as you want your guests to enjoy the moments as much as you do.

Using these tips and suggestions, I’ve put together four unique playlists for the cocktail hour, each surrounding a different theme or genre but all reverberating the vibe of love. Think of it as the modern bride’s way to make every part of her wedding exceptional and unique. Best of all, I've already put these playlists together on Spotify — just click the link after the playlist to subscribe!
