Va-Va-Va-Voom

For some brides, wearing a traditional strapless gowns feel bare enough for a wedding ceremony in front of dozens of friends, family and colleagues. Kate Middleton did demonstrate to the world of brides-to-be that a whiff of modesty never hurts.

But, for those looking for more daring looks for their big day, bridal designers are rolling out a smattering of revealing options in the 2012 season, including a number of European designers.

Barcelona designer Rosa Clara showcased a ’30s-style drop-waisted wedding gown with a deep V-neckline along with shimmering gold looks, including a split-sleeve gown embellished at the waist with a bosom-exposing V. The French bridal line Cymbeline oozed a bit of sensuality for the 2012 collection. A high-collared gauzy lace gown with oversized armholes that just skim over the edge of the bosom and a wide-V-neck gown with flutter sleeves were among the envelope-pushing highlights. And Jenny Packham, whose designs have won over Middleton, offers a sleeveless, A-line gown with a plunging V below the bust line.
Stateside lines also are adding bolder designs to their collections. Sarah Jassir’s aptly named collection, “Desire,” includes a halter-style gown with a diamond-shaped opening at the neckline, best suited to the well-endowed. Even her blog mentions that the motivation for the new season hails from the idea “that desire is the driving force in every woman.”

New York-based Demetrios creates a va-va-va-voom factor with a strapless tulle ball gown set off by a dramatic and uneven – edged V-neckline in the Blue collection that’s carried over from a couple seasons.

Modern lace evokes sexy charm with Alvina Valenta’s ivory Alencon lace gown layered over taffeta that features a Capital V-deep neckline. Lazaro adds a little sass to the mix with an ivory silk organza ball gown with tied spaghetti straps at the shoulder that accentuate the décolletage.

Lest brides worry about the appropriateness of amping up the sizzle factor, they can look to country singer’s LeAnn Rimes ultra- low cut gown she wore to her wedding in April to Eddie Cibrian as a barometer. Rimes told People magazine that she was “definitely a little bit of a sexier bride” in her thigh-baring Reem Acra handmade gown, but it was “still beautiful and sweet.”

So, brides can have the option of both sugar and spice on their wedding day.
