It's What's On the Inside that Matters
Classic platinum and yellow gold wedding bands always are in style, but couples today also are embracing non-traditional looks. Nature-inspired themes mimicking vines or ribbons, asymmetrical bands and bands incorporating colorful gemstones, such as sapphires, emeralds and amethysts, are gaining popularity.
“Generally, brides are looking for something that speaks to themselves and is an expression of their unique interests,” says Kathryn Money, vice president of strategy and merchandising at Brilliant Earth, a San Francisco-based jeweler that specializes in sustainable and beyond conflict free diamonds.
Some key styles at Brilliant Earth include the Winding Willow Diamond, which looks like a metal sculpted vine with four marquise diamonds. Sapphires and diamonds adorn an antique-style ring engraved with delicate scrolls.
Money notes couples also are imprinting their individuality on the rings with personal inscriptions. Romantic thoughts, like “I love you,” “always” and “forever” are classic inscription ideas. To stand out, other couples are embracing pet names, inside jokes, French and Italian words of love and even text shorthand.
Movie buffs may appreciate the pair of Star Wars sterling silver wedding bands designed by Spiffing Jewelry in San Diego. One is stamped with “I love you" and the other, “I know" in a nod to the romance of Han Solo and Princess Leia.
