A Horse is a Bridesmaid … Of Course? Of Course!

Your pet dog as a ring bearer? Sure. But a thoroughbred bridesmaid? That's another story — one Alex Wells will be telling for anniversaries to come.

When Wells married her groom, Graham Sales, she was attended to by her two closest ladies: her firend Lianna Bourne, and Toffee, her 17-year-old horse.

For Wells, who grew up in Coddington, Nottinghamshire, in the U.K., where the couple married, and competes in thoroughbred events, it was about family.

"Toffee is part of the family, and is so important to me," Wells told the U.K.'s Daily Mail. I even asked her permission to get married."

Toffee's presence — she had to wait outside the church during the service — came as no surprise to the groom.

"Alex goes to see Toffee twice and day and will spend weekends with her, so I am always competing with her for attention," Sales said.

For the service, Toffee wore a purple bridle to match the bridesmaid's dress. "Toffee took longer than me to get ready," Bourne said. "She definitely was in the spotlight." [Daily Mail]
