The Bridal Birkenstock: Why Not?
It's the summer of The Ugly-Pretty Sandal.
According to Vogue, it started at the Celine spring 2013 show, when "truly eccentric Birkenstock-like fur sandals" stepped down the runway. Since then, fashion editors have taken cue, bringing the iconic cork-soled sandals back into their wardrobes.
"It's like the most comfortable sandal in the world is having a stylish renaissance," said fashion writer Katherine Bernard, a Vogue.com contributor.
Incorporating them into an event during your wedding weekend means following a few rules. A fresh pedicure is "a must," said fashion Jane Herman Bishop. Bishop suggests metallic leather or patent styles over suede.
If you're skeptical on if they really could work for your wedding, Vogue's Emma Morrsion sums it up well: “There’s nothing better than a really pretty dress with an ugly shoe.”
