Martha Hart Rhodes and Charles Aycock McLendon Jr., both of Charleston, were married on October 4th, 2014, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Charleston. The Rev. David A. Williams performed the five o’clock ceremony. A reception followed at Yeaman’s Hall Club.
The bride is the daughter of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. John Stephen Rhodes of Berea, Kentucky and the Rev. Dr. Sarah Harrell Gaede and Mr. Henry Fraser Gaede of Florence, Alabama. She is the granddaughter of Miller Harrell Peterson and the late Suzanne Waldrop Peterson of Fort Washington, Maryland and the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip Alexander Rhodes of Atlanta, Georgia. The bride earned a B.A. from The University of the South (Sewanee) and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina. She is an attorney with the Social Security Administration.
The bridegroom is the son of the late Mr. Charles Aycock McLendon and Mrs. Mary Stuart McLendon of Greensboro, North Carolina and is the stepson of Mrs. Charles Aycock McLendon of Charleston. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lenox Polk McLendon of Greensboro, North Carolina and Mr. and Mrs. William Marvin Snider of Salisbury, North Carolina. The groom earned a B.A. from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from The University of Virginia. He is a managing partner of MAX Exchange, LLC.
The groom’s daughter, Anne Tomlinson McLendon, was the bride’s maid of honor. Anne Tate Pearce and Nina Fields Britt were the matrons of honor. The groom’s sons, Charles Aycock McLendon III and James Patrick McLendon, served as their father’s best men.
A rehearsal party was given by Mrs. Charles Aycock McLendon at Cannon Green. Following a honeymoon in France, the couple will reside in Charleston.
