The marriage of Miss Hunter Hardage Marth and Mr. David McCord Smythe, Jr. took place on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia. The Reverend Dr. Charles Allen Summers officated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Eugene Marth, Jr. of Richmond. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert Steele Hutcheson, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia and Mrs. Fern Hardage Marth of Newport News, Virginia and Mr. Herbert Eugene Marth of Plymouth, Minnesota.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David McCord Smythe of Charleston, South Carolina. He is the grandson of Mrs. John Condon Conway and the late Mr. Conway and the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buist Smythe, all of Charleston.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Mrs. Catherine Avery Warfield of Nashville, Tennessee was her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Catherine Elizabeth Smythe, sister of the groom, of Charleston; Mrs. Catherine Bear Abramson of Arlington, Virginia; Miss Jane Read Dufour of New Orleans, Louisiana; Mrs. Blair Baxter Gilchrist of Richmond; Miss Anne Rowan Kelly of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Laura Bojarski Lucas of Santa Monica, California; Miss Kathleen Burke Maloomian of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Mrs. Elisabeth Putney Mygatt of Cabin John, Maryland.
Mr. David McCord Smythe, father of the groom, was his best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Stuart Randolph Marth, brother of the bride, of Richmond; Mr. Robert Meyer Hollings III; Mr. Hudson Malone Rogers, Mr. Randell Croft Stoney, Jr., Mr. William Rives Sutherland, and Mr. Perry Edwin Trouche, Jr., all of Charleston.
Readers were Mrs. Margaret Norfleet Weismiller of London, England, and Deacon Patrick Francis Conway, uncle of the groom, of La Selva Beach, California.
Guests were greeted by Miss Mary Moffett Priddy of Charleston and Miss Mary Ross Hutcheson of Richmond, cousins of the bride.
The rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom’s parents, was held at The Commonwealth Club. The wedding reception, hosted by the bride’s parents, was held at The Country Club of Virginia.
The bride is a graduate of St. Catherine's School in Richmond and received her Bachelor of Arts from the College of Charleston. She is employed by Benefitfocus, Inc. in Charleston.
The groom is a graduate of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and received his Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas. He is a Captain with Edison Chouest Offshore.
Following a wedding trip to the British Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Charleston.
