Dr. Rebeccah Marie (Bess) Dawson and Dr. Marco Antonio Contreras Salgado

Dr. Rebeccah Marie (Bess) Dawson and Dr. Marco Antonio Contreras Salgado, both of Lexington, KY, were married on Friday, January 8, 2016 at St. Luke’s Chapel in Charleston, SC. The Reverend Katherine Fiedler Boswell officiated the ceremony. A reception followed at the Carolina Yacht Club.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Thomas Dawson, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, SC. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Gretchen Gayden Dawson and the late Mr. William Thomas Dawson of Columbia, SC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Siegfried Schlesier of Meldorf, Germany. Bess earned a B.A. from Davidson College as well as an M.A and Ph. D. in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She works as an Assistant Professor of German Studies at the University of Kentucky.
The groom is the son of Sr. Belarmino Antonio Contreras Marchant and Sra. Luz Elena Salgado Salgado of Cauquenes, Maule, Chile. He is the grandson of the late Sr. Belarmino Antonio Contreras Rojo and Sra. Maria Elena Marchant Bustos and the late Sr. Jose Ercides Salgado Perez and Sra. Manuela Rosa Salgado Chamorro, all of Cauquenes, Maule, Chile. Marco earned his B. S. and Engineering Diploma from the Universidad de Talca, Chile and his M. S. and Ph. D. in Forestry from the University of Montana. He is employed by the University of Kentucky as an Assistant Professor of Forest Management.
The bride’s attendants were Dr. Gráinne Therese Watson, Miss Maria Melissa Castillio, Mrs. Kathryn Osborne Adams and Mrs. Hunter McEaddy Dawson. The bride’s nieces Gretchen Caroline Dawson and Elizabeth Gerhard Dawson were the flower girls.
The groom’s best man was Mr. Mitchell D. Guerette and groomsmen were Mr. Matthew M. Ranta, Mr. Christoph Gerhard Dawson and Mr. William Thomas Dawson, III. Nephew of the bride, William Hunter Dawson was the ring bearer.
The groom’s parent hosted a rehearsal dinner on the eve of the wedding at Red Drum Gastropub in Mount Pleasant, SC. The couple will honeymoon in Europe and reside in Lexington, KY.
