Vanessa Marconi-Tuppan and Michael Alexander Scholtens were married on Friday, September 8 in Decatur, Georgia. Vanessa is the daughter of Drs. Oliveiros de Tuppan and Alda Luiza Silva Marconi of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Oliveiros Tuppan and Ruth Andrade Tuppan of Rio de Janiero and Mrs. Maria do Carmo Silva Marconi of Rio de Janeiro and the late Mr. Theophilo Marconi. Vanessa is a graaduate of Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro in Rio de Janeiro. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in International and Comparative Politics from the American University of Paris and a Postgraduate Degree in French Language and Culture from the Sorbonne Universite’ in Paris and a Master’s of Science in International Development from The University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Michael is the son of Professor Brian and Mrs. Mary Scholtens of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Louella Scholtens of Winterset, Iowa, and Mrs. Irenc Crum of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the late Professor Howard Crum. The couple’s friend Matthew Morris and the groom’s sister, Luciana Scholtens were attendants. Michael is a graduate of Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC. He earned Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Political Science and History from Furman University in Greenville, SC and a Master’s of Science in International Relations of Middle East, with Arabic from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. The couple resides in Decatur, GA where Michael is employed at The Carter Center in Atlanta, GA, as a Program Assistant in the Democratization Program.
