Miss Elizabeth Speed Ward, of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, and Mr. Charles Owen Nation III of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of DeBordieu, South Carolina, were married on June 17, 2017 at 6:30 in the evening at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky. The Reverend Doctor John D. Koch, Jr., Rector at St. Francis in the Fields and the Reverend T. Jennings former Rector at St. Francis in the Fields, officiated.
The wedding reception was held at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky with music by Rick Bartlett during cocktails and dining, and The 14 Karate Gold Band from Atlanta for celebrating and dancing afterwards.
The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Owen Nation II, at The Louisville Country Club, and followed by an after party for cocktails and dancing at The Louisville Country Club. The after party was hosted by 22 families, all close friends of the Nation Family from South Carolina, other areas of the south, and the balance of the United States. The music for dancing was provided by the Back Porch Orchestra from Greensboro, N.C.
         A Thursday night supper, prior to the wedding for early arriving guests, was hosted by the parents of the bride and the parents of the groom at the home of the bride’s parents.
The bride’s attendants were Margaret Grace DeLuca, Mary (Molly)  Morten Dobbins, Hayden Elizabeth Dry, Elizabeth (Lacy) Engelsmann Flanigan, Caroline Pyburn McGarity, Hanna Nation Seabrook (sister-in-law of the bride), and Katherine (Katie) Ann Zweier. The maids of honor were Cameron (Camie) Nancy Carlock, ,and Anne Byrd Mahoney.
Grace Walker Ward (niece of the bride) was junior bridesmaid and Harriet Blythin Ward (niece of bride) was the flower girl.
The gromsmen were Kenneth Hunter Holladay, Jack Edmund Joynson III, John Hamilton Evins King, John (Jake) Vinson MacDowell III, Benjamin Cody McGarity, Nelson Eddings Seabrook (brother-in-law of groom), and Carl (Cary) Lloyd Yandle IV. The Groom’s best men were David Salmons Hollerith and Edward Lynch Vranian.
Parties in Kentucky prior to the wedding weekend honoring the couple included a cocktail supper hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Frederic H. Davis and a recipe shower and luncheon hosted by Mmes Stefi Chilton, B. J. Elliot, Becky Miller, Susan Mitchell, and Calvin Pinney.
A bridesmaids luncheon was given by Mmes Fofo Johnson, Jenny Dobbins, and Margaret Dry at The River Valley Club.
A luncheon for the groomsmen was held at Churchill Downs Race Course where the fourth race was named “The Nation’s ReWard Classic” and was won on the Turf by Tipsy Kitten. The winner’s trophy was presented by the Groom and his Groomsmen.
A Sunday Post Wedding Brunch was given for the bride and groom by Lois Louis and David Ratterman at The River Valley Club.
The bride attended Kentucky Country Day School and is a graduate of Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Virginia and Washington & Lee University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. The groom is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and Wofford College, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order.
The bride and groom honeymooned in Anguilla in the Caribbean. The couple is now at home in Charleston where the bride is an Undewriter for PURE Insurance and the groom is a second year student at Medical University of South Carolina.
