Anna Spencer Whitworth of Wendell, NC and Samuel Perry Gervais of   
Johns Island, SC , were united in marriage on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 5:30 PM at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul. The officiant was Reverend James Seabrook Sosnowski, a childhood friend of the groom. Music for the ceremony was provided by Paul Thomas, who works at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul and Daphne Mamoulides, childhood friend of the bride, who performed Panis Angelicus, by César Franck.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Donald E. Whitworth, Jr. of Wendell, NC. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Whitworth of Durham, NC and Capt. and Mrs. Earl Lee DeWispelaere, Retired USN of Chapel Hill, NC. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Gervais of Johns Island, SC. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis Gervais of Johns Island, SC and Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Thackston of Orangeburg, SC.
The bride’s veil and her dress of Alençon lace were customized by Kira Elizabeth Designs, using lace from her mother’s vintage wedding gown. The bride was attended by Virginia Rogers as maid of honor along with her bridesmaids Emily Andersen, Katelyn, Barnett, Fiona Bloom, Hanna Collins, Kasey Ernst, Sarah Furr, Robin Lewis, Cortney McEniry, and Rachel Nelson.
The best man, Ben Gervais, is the groom’s younger brother. The bride’s brothers, Hunter and Jarrett Whitworth, were also groomsmen, alongside Gervais Hills, Craig Bennett, Austin Ducworth, Drew Floyd, Eric Knapp, Chuck Lewis, and Corey Prescott.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Sea Island Yacht Club. The wedding reception was held at the Historic Rice Mill Building. Anna and Sam both teach in Berkeley County School District and will reside in Charleston, SC.
