Sarah Frances Helms and John Thomas Floyd were united in marriage on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at five o’clock in the evening at Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C. The ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Dr. David S. Melton and the Reverend Stafford J.P. Floyd, uncle of the groom. A reception hosted by the bride’s parents followed at The Charlotte City Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Phifer Helms of Charlotte. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Deas Manning Richardson of Spartanburg, S.C. and the late Mrs. Leonora Redfearn Helms and Mr. Robert Everette Helms of Spartanburg S.C. Sarah graduated from Myers Park High School and Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. She is an account director at Luquire George Andrews in Charlotte.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Jay Floyd of Johns Island, S.C. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lois Francis Floyd of Ladson, S.C. and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Scott Thomas of James Island, S.C. John graduated from Summerville High School and the University of South Carolina. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina and is an attorney at Moore & Van Allen in Charlotte.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. The matron of honor was Virginia Helms Warlick, sister of the bride of Charlotte. Her maid of honor was Caroline Bowie Helms, sister of the bride of Chicago, Illinois. Her bridesmaids were Mrs. Elizabeth Dumenil Clarke Glynn of Norfolk, VA., Mrs. Anne Wiltshire Henry of Richmond, VA., Mrs. Nicole Tate Milks of Charlotte and Ms. Huntley Elizabeth Rodes of New York City, N.Y.
The best man was Charles Frederick Lansing of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. Groomsmen were John Paul Braut of Punta Gorda, FL, Nathaniel Kim Cannon of Ridgeway, S.C., Jason Thomas Fromer of Sarasota, FL, Jason Michael Pecora of Orlando FL, and Alvin Paul Weissenstein, III of Sumter, S.C.
The flower girl was Miss Ellen Coulter Warlick and the ring bearer was Master Hayes Phifer Warlick, niece and nephew of the bride. Scripture readers were Ms. Adrienne Brooke Floyd, sister of the groom and Mr. Coulter Allan Warlick, brother-in-law of the bride. Ushers were Leonard Thomas Bishop, Robert Deas Bishop, Paul Matthews Richardson, cousins of the bride, and William Albert Milks.
A luncheon honoring the bride and her attendants was given on Friday at Napa on Providence by the bride’s aunts and cousins. Friday evening the groom’s family hosted the rehearsal dinner at The Barrel Room at Triple C Brewery. Following a honeymoon to Hong Kong and Thailand Mr. and Mrs. Floyd will reside in Charlotte.
